Opinião: Quando uma leitura nos deixa com o coração quentinho e cheio de alegria e amor é difícil colocar em palavras e transmitir esses mesmos sentimentos. Pelo menos para mim é. Este livro, é fruto de quando a imaginação se cruza com a realidade, e a Rosária consegue através dos seus contos, passar parte da sua essência como escritora mas também como boa observadora da vida lá fora. De forma intimista inicialmente para depois passar a uma visão mais generalizada, cada Conto representa algo que podemos ver de uma Janela (os olhos são o espelho da alma, uma janela é o reflexo da vida) e com muito humor e sabedoria somos encantados pelas palavras e pelas estórias dos outros, que também são nossas. Este foi o primeiro livro de sempre em que fiz anotações conforme ia lendo, justamente porque me identifiquei com tanta coisa. Sofro também de Palpitite aguda, e já muitas vezes tive a oportunidade de fazer CTRL ALT DEL e fiz Escape. Também eu tive memórias de m#### que me anularam durante tantos anos e um Postal a Preto Branco ainda junto da minha mesa de cabeceira. Consumi demasiado Fast Food e afastei-me de Bandos não desejados, sempre com a bênção de quem não consolou ninguém mas desvendando Mistérios na Rua da Postiça. O Quotidiano está cheio de gente egocêntrica, mas no final só queremos da nossa Janela também nós vermos o Sandokan. Termino com vontade de viajar com a Penélope, por este país fora, tentando encontrar a cura para a estupidez crónica, mas até agora só consegui uma valente dor de barriga e gases, apanhar uma grande Molha, ver o Son Goku e ainda nem cheguei à Califórnia Portuguesa, onde gritei para o Gustavo e o André “Cuidado Olha o Gato!” (isto aconteceu mesmo). Vai um Bolinho de Bolacha? Mas só com creme de manteiga que quero viver Feliz para Sempre!

Recomendo muito, obrigado por este pedacinho de céu em forma de letras.

Opinião: Mais Um Thriller bom, mas que a meu ver faltou-lhe qualquer coisa para ser excelente. Apesar de ter gostado muito da estória, da forma como a mesma nos é contada, julgo que só a meio do livro é que temos aquela reviravolta que nos dá vontade de chegar até ao final, antes disso achei demasiado lento a desenvolver. Infelizmente achei previsível quem enviava os presentes apesar de não saber ao certo a razão, mas o final efetivamente é uma surpresa e salva este livro. Gosto muito destes autores e já li tudo deles e acho que não gostei tanto deste livro como dos anteriores no entanto, só pelo final completamente surpreendente vale a minha honesta recomendação.

Eng Review: Another good Thriller, but in my opinion it lacked something to be excellent. Although I really liked the story, the way it is told to us, I think that it is only halfway through the book that we have that twist that makes us want to reach the end, before that I found it too slow to develop. Unfortunately, I found who sent the gifts predictable, although I didn’t know exactly why, but the ending is actually a surprise and saves this book. I really like these authors and I’ve read all of ttheir work and I don’t think I liked this book as much as the previous ones, however, just because of the completely surprising ending, it’s worth my honest recommendation. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Cinco Contos Te Conto – Sara B Carvalho

Sinopse: O livro “Cinco Contos Te Conto”, da Sara B Carvalho, traz-me a vida. Não a que sonhamos, não a ideal, mas a que acontece. A que encontramos a todo o instante, a toda a hora, onde existem pessoas. Felizes, infelizes, com mais ou menos amor, com mais ou menos amizade, com mais ou menos sentimentos. Também com formas diferentes de encarar as adversidades, as vicissitudes, as emergências e, enfim, a felicidade. Nos cinco contos que tive a honra de ler, encontrei mundos. Pequenos e grandes, coloridos e a preto e branco. Encontrei lágrimas de alegria e lágrimas de infortúnio. Encontrei também palavras muito bem escolhidas e frases muito bem compostas. E, quando assim é, corre-se o risco sério de se encontrar um livro bonito, que fica. E, quando um livro fica, a memória de quem o lê fica mais rica. Como são estas estórias de gente comum. E é por isso que eu me sinto mais rico, por ter tido a felicidade de ler estes contos. Obrigado, Sara. José Rodrigues Escritor

Opinião: Eu sou muito, muito suspeita no que compete a dar opiniões a livros de contos, porque simplesmente adoro. É de uma forma quase mágica que os autores que escrevem contos nos proporcionam leituras incríveis e rápidas mas que ficam na mente. Neste livro existem Cinco Contos, todos eles proporcionando reflexão, pensamento crítico e uma lição a aprender. Julgo que dependendo do leitor a* lição a reter será diferente, o que torna ainda mais especial a forma como a Sara escreve. A Sara escreve com alma e coração, profunda conhecedora de Mundos e Gentes e através da visão dela consegue criar cinco formas de nos deixar a pensar, refletir e sentir que pertencemos todos a algo. Recomendo muito a leitura deste livro, a fãs de contos ou não, e que venham mais! O meu conto favorito foi o “Nr 21”, por me ter remetido quase às minhas origens e tudo o que me fez sentir.

Opinião: Bem… vocês não estão preparados para este livro… Freida McFadden já nos habituou a reviravoltas e a enredos bastante misteriosos e sempre com suspense acima da média, mas aqui ela conseguiu mesmo até ao final, trocar-nos a voltas todas. Para algumas pessoas até pode ser previsível, mas acredito que só quando chegam ao final é que entendem que não, não é assim tão previsível. Até que ponto uma mãe vai para proteger um filho? Mesmo quando não confia no mesmo? Mesmo quando tudo indica que deu à luz um monstro? É mesmo uma leitura muito rápida, porque queremos chegar ao fim o quanto antes e perceber se o que vamos descobrindo está certo. É mais um Thriller Psicológico típico, mas muito bom, com um bom enredo e personagens cativantes. Ainda só existe em inglês.

Eng Review: Well… you are not prepared for this book… Freida McFadden has already accustomed us to twists and quite mysterious plots and always with above average suspense, but here she really managed to trick us all the way until the end. For some people it may even be predictable, but I believe that only when they reach the end, they understand that no, it is not that predictable. How far will a mother go to protect her child? Even when you don’t trust him? Even when everything indicates that she gave birth to a monster? It’s a really quick read, because we want to get to the end as soon as possible and see if what we’re discovering is right. It’s another typical Psychological Thriller, but a very good one, with a great plot and captivating characters. It still only exists in English.

Opinião: Para quem leu “Verity” e Behind Closed Doors” este livro é um bocadinho mais do mesmo mas a meu ver com um plot Twist final melhor. Um casal abastado, uma esposa (Victoria) que sofreu um acidente doméstico terrível que a impossibilita de voltar a ter uma vida autónoma, e um marido super cuidadoso que contrata uma mulher, Sylvia, para ser a ajudante e cuidadora principal de Victoria (que tem mais cuidadores, além do querido esposo). Obviamente que as coisas não vão correr bem e Sylvia descobre um diário escondido de Victoria que muda o decurso todo da narrativa. Passamos a ter narrativa a dois tempos, pela visão do diário de Victoria e Sylvia percebe que tem que agir antes que seja tarde demais. Se é que já não é, tendo em conta o envolvimento pouco convencional com o amável patrão e todas as descobertas que vai fazendo ao longo da estória e claro o estado de saúde irreversível da patroa. Eu gostei do livro mas não consegui adorar, tendo em conta a similaridade com os livros que citei acima, então aquele fator surpresa não existiu e isso para mim é fundamental num Thriller Psicológico. Se nunca leram os livros acima, então este é ideal, porque o final é incrível e a meu ver melhor que o final dos outros dois livros. Este livro existe ainda apenas em Inglês.

ENG Review: For those who have read “Verity” and Behind Closed Doors” this book is a little more of the same but in my opinion with a better plot Twist. A wealthy couple, a wife (Victoria) who suffered a terrible domestic accident that makes it impossible for her to have an independent life, and a super careful husband who hires a woman, Sylvia, to be Victoria’s helper and main caregiver (who has more caregivers, in addition to her dear husband). Obviously things are not going to go well and Sylvia discovers a hidden diary of Victoria’s that changes the entire course of the narrative. We now have a two times narrative, through the vision of Victoria’s diary and Sylvia realizes that she has to act before it is too late. If it isn’t already, thinking about the unconventional involvement with the kind boss and all the discoveries she makes throughout the story and of course Victoria’s irreversible state of health. I liked the book but I couldn’t love it, because of the similarity with the books I mentioned above, so that surprise factor didn’t exist for me and that is fundamental in a Psychological Thriller. If you have never read the books above, then this one is ideal, because the ending is incredible and in my opinion better than the ending of the other two books.

The Inmate – Freida McFadden – (Digital/KindleUnlimited)

1) Treat all prisoners with respect.

2) Never reveal any personal information.

3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.

Opinião: O que leva uma mulher a ser enfermeira numa prisão de máxima segurança masculina? Têm que conhecer a estória de Brooke e da forma como ela sobrevive ao pior dia da vida dela, e mesmo assim consegue ganhar mais do que perder. A Estória de Brooke é de superação, de resiliência e de força de vontade para mudar o que jamais pensou que poderia ser mudado. No entanto na prisão onde Brooke vai trabalhar, está encarcerado o responsável por aquele dia fatídico, Shane, o seu ex namorado da escola secundária e ele sabe que foi graças ao testemunho de Brooke que foi condenado a passar o resto dos seus dias na prisão. Só vos digo que este livro tem uma reviravolta incrível, e que como já vamos sendo habituados na escrita da Freida McFadden, nada do que parece é e aqui… bom, aqui não é mesmo. Tem tudo para ser um excelente Thriller Psicológico e vocês acreditem em mim, não estão mesmo a ver como é que termina esta estória! Recomendo muito, vão ficar boquiabertos com os capítulos finais!

ENG Review: What makes a woman to become a nurse practitioner in a maximum security male prison? You have to know Brooke’s story and how she survives the worst day of her life, and still manages to gain more than she loses. Brooke’s Story is one of overcoming, resilience and willpower to change what you never thought could be changed. However, in the prison where Brooke goes to work, the person responsible for that fateful day, Shane, her ex-high school boyfriend, is incarcerated and he knows that it was thanks to Brooke’s testimony that he was sentenced to spend the rest of his days in prison. I’m just telling you that this book has an incredible twist, and that as we’ve become accustomed to Freida McFadden’s writing, nothing as it seems is and here… well, here it really isn’t. It has everything to be an excellent Psychological Thriller and trust me, you really don’t see or know how this story ends! I highly recommend it, you’ll be amazed at the final chapters!

Ward D – Freida McFadden – (Digital/KindleUnlimited)

Sinopse: Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward.

Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out.

And as the hours tick by, Amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. When patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger.

Amy’s worst nightmare was spending the night on Ward D.

And now she might never escape.

Opinião: Querem um livro de malucos? Mesmo malucos? Este aqui tem com fartura! Temos malucos saudáveis, malucos que não o são e Assassinos, adivinhem la? Também malucos.

Amy tem que fazer o turno da noite na Ala D do Hospital onde está a estagiar, mas tem motivos pessoais e que ninguém pode saber para ter medo que algo mau aconteça enquanto lá estiver. Porque não é a primeira vez que lá entra. A Ala D é uma ala para pessoas com perturbações mentais, uns mais perigosos (para eles e para os outros) que outros e ao longo da narrativa vamos conhecendo cada um dos doentes lá internados e de que forma Amy os pode ajudar. Mas as coisas vão efetivamente correr muito (mesmo muito) mal e será que ela consegue escapar da Ala D com vida? Ou Sanidade? Leiam para descobrir! Existe apenas em inglês.

ENG Review: Do you want a crazy people book? Really crazy people? This book has it all! We have healthy crazy people, non crazy people and killers, guess what? Also crazy.

Amy has to work the night shift on Ward D of the Hospital where she is interning, but she has personal reasons that no one can know why she is afraid that something bad will happen while she is there. Because it’s not the first time she has been there. Ward D is for people with mental disorders, some more dangerous (for themselves and others) than others and throughout the narrative we get to know each of the patients hospitalized there and how Amy can help them. But things will actually go very (very) wrong and will she be able to escape Ward D alive? Or with Sanity? Read to find out!

Do Not Disturb – Freida McFadden – (Digital/KindleUnlimited)

Opinião: Um Thriller Psicológico mas com uma pitada de terror.. é o que encontramos neste livro. Deu-me muitas vibes de Alfred Hitchcock e de “Bates Motel”, e agradou-me imenso! Quinn foge após ter assassinado alguém e vai parar ao Baxter Motel, um motel num local remoto e com acessibilidade reduzida. Aí, a mesma pensa quais são os passos seguintes a dar para fugir ao que fez, mas primeiro tem que sobreviver a tudo o que se começa a desenrolar dentro deste Motel, que além de velho e decrépito, tem um histórico digamos, macabro. Os donos do Motel, Nick e a sua esposa, podiam ser normais só que não. Nick desfaz-se em gentilezas para com Quinn, mas na realidade a sua esposa vigia através da Janela do quarto onde se encontra, todos os passos de Quinn e não parece muito agradada com o que vê… Além de Quinn existe apenas mais uma hóspede no Motel e será que é suficiente para que o pior não aconteça? O final é mais uma vez uma enorme reviravolta de eventos e que mesmo já suspeitando, a autora leva-nos a pensar que os culpados são os inocentes de tudo. Recomendo a leitura, é de começar e só terminar quando já não há mais para ler.

Eng Review: A Psychological Thriller but with a spark of horror… that’s what we find in this book. It gave me a lot of Alfred Hitchcock and “Bates Motel” vibes, and I really liked it! Quinn runs away after having murdered someone and ends up at the Baxter Motel, a motel in a remote location with reduced accessibility. Then, she thinks about the next steps to take to escape what she did, but first she has to survive everything that is starting to unfold inside this Motel, which in addition to being old and decrepit, has a history, let’s say, macabre. The Motel owners, Nick and his wife, could be normal but they weren’t. Nick is very kind to Quinn, but in reality his wife is watching Quinn’s every step through the window of the room where she is staying and she doesn’t seem very pleased with what she sees… Besides Quinn, there is only one other guest in the Motel and could be enough to prevent the worst from happening? The ending is once again a huge turn of events and even though we already suspect it, the author leads us to think that the culprits are the innocent ones of everything. I recommend reading it, you have to start and only finish it when there is no more to read.

One by One – Freida McFadden – (Digital/KindleUnlimited)

But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:

Opinião: Vou ser muito honesta aqui. De todos os livros que li da Freida (que foram todos os publicados até à data) este foi o que menos gostei. Não consegui criar ligação com as personagens, com a estória, com algumas coisas que não me faziam sentido… Portanto e resumindo, um grupo de pessoas conhecidas (3 casais) junta-se para passarem umas férias num retiro com direito a caminhadas e banhos turcos, mas acaba perdido no meio do mato, sem maneira de contactar ninguém (porque raios nunca existe sinal sequer para chamadas de emergência…) e começam a desaparecer e morrer um por um. Não existe uma reviravolta no final que conseguisse salvar (para mim claro) este livro e achei toda a narrativa lenta, personagens desinteressantes e ingénuas e leiam apenas se tal como eu gostaram de ler todos os livros de um autor que gostem muito.

Eng Review: I’m going to be very honest here. Of all the books I´ve read by Freida (which were all published to date) this was the one I liked least. I couldn’t create a connection with the characters, with the story, with some things that didn’t make sense to me… So, in short, a group of people (3 couples) get together to spend a holiday in a retreat with hiking and hot tubs. , but they end up lost in the middle of the woods/nowhere, with no way to contact anyone (because damn, there’s never even a signal for emergency calls…) and they start to disappear and die one by one. There is no twist at the end that could save (for me of course) this book and I found the entire narrative slow, characters uninteresting and naive and only read if, like me, you enjoyed reading all the books by an author you really like.

I’ll make sure of that.

Opinião: Ora pois bem, a narrativa deste livro é contada sobre vários pontos de vista e não há um momento de sossego durante toda a estória. April tem um canal de Youtube de Segredos de culinária e toda a gente gosta dela no pequeno bairro onde mora. Com a chegada dos novos vizinhos as coisas ainda ficam mais alegres e parecem todos dar-se bem. Só que não. April vê a vida a desmoronar quando o filho subitamente desaparece e aparece na casa dos novos vizinhos. A partir deste evento, nada é como antes, e todos naquele bairro escondem segredos que põe em risco todos os que la vivem e já viveram. Amigos que afinal são tudo menos amigáveis e relações que são tudo menos verdadeiras fazem com que o final deste livro seja um pouco inesperado e foi o que menos gostei, pareceu-me forçado e pouco credível. Adorei o livro exceto o final. Não me convenceu.

Eng Review: Well, the story of this book is told from several POV and there is not a moment of peace throughout the entire narrrative. April has a Cooking Secrets YouTube channel and everyone likes her in the small neighborhood where she lives. With the arrival of new neighbors things get even happier and everyone seems to get along well. Only not. April sees her life fall apart when her son suddenly disappears and appears at her new neighbors’ house. From this event on, nothing is the same as before, and everyone in that neighborhood hides secrets that put everyone who lives there and has ever lived there at risk. Friends that are anything but friendly and relationships that are anything but truthful make the ending of this book a little unexpected and it was what I liked least, it seemed forced and not very credible. I loved the book except the ending. It didn’t convince me.

The Surrogate – Freida McFadden – (Digital/KindleUnlimited)

Opinião: Mais uma estória que tem tudo para não acabar bem. Ou pelo menos não ter um final muito feliz. Já sabemos que quando envolve barrigas de aluguer a coisa pode correr lindamente ou ser um desastre. Aqui foi um desastre. Abby só queria ser mãe e Monica, sua assistente e colega de trabalho prontifica-se a ajudar… o esposo de Abby não é muito fã da ideia, preferia adotar uma criança mas lá cede ao pedido. Só que Monica não é assim tão boazinha (esta acho que todos nós já esperávamos) e as coisas começam a correr mesmo muito mal, ao ponto de Abby quase perder tudo incluindo aquilo que tanto deseja. Mas como em todos os Thrillers da Freida existem reviravoltas, aqui não é exceção e o que vocês acham que sabem, não, não é nada disso, é pior. Infelizmente aqui a ficção imita a realidade (ou será o contrário) e o que não faltam são casos reais similares ao de Abby, cujo desejo de ser mãe suplanta tudo e todos. Recomendo!

Eng Review: Another story that has everything not to end well. Or at least not have a very happy ending. We already know that when surrogacy is involved, things can go well or be a disaster. Here, was a disaster. Abby just wanted to be a mother and Monica, her assistant and co-worker, is ready to help… Abby’s husband is not a big fan of the idea, he would prefer to adopt a child but he gives in to the request. But Monica isn’t that good (I think we all expected this) and things start to go really wrong, to the point where Abby almost loses everything, including what she wants so much. But as in all of Freida’s Thrillers there are twists and turns, here is no exception and what you think you know, no, it’s nothing like that, it’s worse. Unfortunately, here fiction imitates reality (or is it the opposite) and there is a great amount of real cases similar to Abby’s, whose desire to be a mother is bigger than everything and everyone. I recommend!

Opinião: Posso dar dez estrelas? Meu Deus, que Thriller Psicológico Incrível! É mesmo um dos melhores que já li da Freida! Apanhou-me completamente desprevenida, e caramba, este é um must read mesmo! Apesar do título, não temos a estória cliché de uma Ex que por exemplo faz stalking. Temos livros, uma livraria antiga, Amor para a vida toda e várias pessoas ligadas entre elas que culminam numa das maiores surpresas de leitura dos últimos tempos. Existem reviravoltas e existem narrativas como esta, contadas a dois tempos e múltiplos POV que fazem com que valha a pena ler até ao fim de uma assentada. Todas as personagens estão construidas de forma brilhante e engenhosa e acreditem que nada vos prepara para o que vos espera. Recomendo MUITO a leitura deste livro, eu com certeza vou voltar a reler que julgo que mesmo assim me escapou um detalhe ou outro.

Eng Review: Can I give it ten stars? My God, what an incredible psychological thriller! It’s really one of the best I’ve ever read by Freida! It caught me completely off guard, and damn, this is a must read! Despite the title, we don’t have the cliché story of an Ex who, for example, does stalking. We have books, an old bookstore, Forever after Love and several people connected to each other that culminate in one of the biggest reading surprises of recent times. There are twists and turns and there are narratives like this, told in two times and multiple POVs that make it worth reading until the end in one sitting. All the characters are constructed in a brilliant and ingenious way and believe me, nothing prepares you for what awaits you. I HIGHLY recommend reading this book, I will definitely reread it again as I think I still missed one detail or another.

Sinopse: Tess Strebel can’t recognize her own face.

She can’t recognize her home. Her bedroom is unfamiliar. And she can’t remember the handsome stranger lying next to her in bed. A stranger who claims he’s her husband.

Tess reads a letter in her own handwriting, composed during a rare lucid day, explaining her life as it now exists: She was in a terrible car accident one year ago. Every morning, she wakes up unable to remember most of the last decade. Including her own wedding.

Tess has no choice but to accept her new life and hope her memory will return. After all, why should she doubt the letter she wrote to herself? Or the kind man from the wedding photos on her dresser who seems to genuinely care about her well-being?

And then Tess receives a text message on her phone. One that changes everything:

Opinião: Para quem leu o “Antes de Adormecer” de S.J Watson este livro é mesmo muito similar. Envolve o mesmo tipo de patologia clínica, cada vez que a protagonista Tess acorda, não se lembra quem é, com quem está casada e recorda-se apenas da sua vida antes de ter o acidente que a deixou assim. E antes de ter o acidente ela estava feliz e noiva de um homem que não é o seu marido atual. Para facilitar a sua vida, ela escreveu uma carta a si mesma, que lê sempre que acorda de forma a conseguir aguentar o seu dia a dia, que envolve os cuidados do seu esposo (que para ela é um desconhecido) e de mais pessoas das quais ela não se recorda. Até do seu cão ela não se recorda. Claro que as coisas não são o que parecem e o marido não é tão dedicado como diz ser, e nem ela é tão inocente como se julga. No final, traída pela sua mente e por quem a rodeia, Tess tem que escolher entre ser feliz ou perder tudo. Gostei bastante mesmo sendo muito similar ao livro acima descrito. O toque da Freida muda tudo e faz valer a pena a leitura.

Eng Review: For those who have read “Before I Go To Sleep” by S.J Watson, this book is very similar. It involves the same type of clinical pathology, every time the protagonist Tess wakes up, she doesn’t remember who she is, who she is married to and only remembers her life before having the accident that left her like this. And before the accident she was happily engaged to a man who is not her current husband. To make her life easier, she wrote a letter to herself, which she reads every time she wakes up in order to be able to cope with her daily life, which involves the care of her husband (who is a stranger to her) and other people which she doesn’t remember. She doesn’t even remember her dog. Of course, things are not what they seem and her husband is not as dedicated as he claims to be, nor is she as innocent as she thinks. In the end, betrayed by her mind and those around her, Tess has to choose between being happy or losing everything. I really liked it even though it was very similar to the book described above. Freida’s touch changes everything and makes it worth reading.

Opinião: Este livro é dos primeiros da Freida, foi publicado em 2014, e acho que foi uma espécie de ensaio geral para a escrita maravilhosa que nos tem vindo a habituar nos últimos anos. Esta estória é narrada sobre seis pontos de vista diferentes, Heather, Rachel, Abe, Manson, Ginny e o Dr.Conlon. Desde que o Dr. Conlon começou a lecionar no Southside Medical School que todos os anos um aluno se suicida. Coincidência? Trouxe com ele uma maldição qualquer? Entretanto todos têm algo em comum que ao longo dos diferentes pontos de vista se interligam e todas as ações individuais que tomam, influenciam o resultado final das suas vidas e respetivos futuros. É de facto um livro com personagens carismáticas, todas elas com uma “hidden agenda” e que se traduz em um final meio esperado mas ao mesmo tempo deixa uma grande dúvida no ar. Eu gostei bastante da leitura, é como ver o nascer de uma grande autora e se ainda não leram, recomendo. Vão gostar de certeza que gostam de um bom Thriller psicologico com uma pitada de drama e romance.

Eng Review: This book is one of Freida’s first published books, it was published in 2014, and I think it was a kind of general rehearsal for the wonderful writing that we have become used to in recent years. This story is told from six different POV, Heather, Rachel, Abe, Manson, Ginny and Dr. Conlon. Every year since Dr. Conlon began teaching at Southside Medical School, a student has committed suicide. Coincidence? Did he bring with him some curse? However, everyone has something in common that, through different POV, they are interconnected and all the individual actions they take influence the final outcome of their lives and respective futures. It is a book with charismatic characters, all of them with a “hidden agenda” and which culminates into a somewhat expected ending but at the same time leaves a big question in the air. I really enjoyed reading it, it’s like seeing the birth of a great author and if you haven’t read it yet, I recommend it. You’ll definitely enjoy a good psychological thriller with a little bit of drama and romance.

Reparem, quem tem gatos vai se identificar logo em tudo, vai saber, vai sentir que não está sozinho. E é de estar sozinho e perdido na vida que este livro também se trata. Do quanto as pequenas coisas, os pequenos gestos é que contam para que sejamos felizes. E os gatos, meus amigos, são o sinónimo de felicidade. Desde que os deixemos “mandar” em nós! Um dos meus maiores sonhos é viajar até ao Japão e visitar um dos Neko Cafe deles, quem sabe um dia! Recomendo MUITO este leitura, foi incrível e julgo que o vá reler em breve.

Opinião: De leitura compulsiva. Estamos até ao final mesmo sem saber que raios se passa aqui. Quando eu pensei que sabia, que já tinha tudo desvendado… Nope. Mas quem é que no seu perfeito juízo iria adivinhar que uma simples visita a casa dos sogros ia ser o maior pesadelo da sua vida? Quando Chelsea começa a desvendar os segredos do marido e da sua família, já começa a ser tarde demais… porque uma vez que se entra naquela Cabana no meio dos Bosques e naqueles terrenos, já não se volta a sair. Literalmente.

English Review: Compulsive reading. We are until the very end without even knowing what the hell is going on here. When I thought I knew, that everything had already been figured out… Nope. But who in their right mind would guess that a simple visit to their in-laws’ house would be the biggest nightmare of their life? When Chelsea begins to uncover the secrets of her husband and his family, it starts to be too late… because once you enter that Cabin in the middle of the Woods and those lands, you never come out again. Literally.

Rina Kent was the new hot shot psychiatrist at Holy Saints ward. She also recently married the love of her life, who’s also a doctor at the same hospital. Rina felt on top of the world, until one of her patients committed suicide.

Opinião: Este já foi um pouco mais slow paced que o “The In-Laws”. É mais um Thriller passado em ambiente hospitalar, neste caso ala de psiquiatria, em que a protagonista Rina sofre um golpe enorme na sua vida pessoal e profissional quando uma das suas jovens pacientes se suicida. Após esse evento, Rina divorcia-se do seu marido de sonho (e colega médico) e apenas vive para o trabalho, fazendo regularmente os turnos da noite, por serem mais tranquilos. Quando tudo parece aparentar normalidade eis que chega uma nova jovem paciente que muda tudo. Essa paciente, uma adolescente com autismo e que aparenta ser muda segreda ao ouvido de Rina uma lista de nomes que um por um vão aparecendo mortos. Um deles é o do seu ex-marido e Rina tem que descobrir o que se passa antes que seja tarde demais. Pensei que ia gostar mais do final… não me surpreendeu. Achei a estória boa, acho que o final ficou aquém das expetativas.

Eng Review: This one was a little slower burn than “The In-Laws”. It’s another Thriller set in a hospital environment, in this case a psychiatric ward, in which the protagonist Rina suffers a huge blow to her personal and professional life when one of her young patients commits suicide. After this event, Rina divorces her dream husband (and fellow doctor) and just lives for work, regularly doing night shifts, as they are calmer. When everything seems normal, a new young patient arrives and changes everything. This patient, a teenager with autism who appears to be mute, whispers to Rina a list of names that one by one turn up dead. One of them is her ex-husband and Rina has to find out what’s going on before it’s too late. I thought I would like the ending more… it didn’t surprise me. I thought the story was good, I think the ending fell short of expectations.

“The Girl Outside” – Her daughter has a dark secret. One that will turn their perfect small town upside down.

Mandy Knox can’t shake the gut wrenching feeling that something sinister happened to her teenage daughter. Everyone, including the police, insist she’s a runaway.

Opinião: Uma mãe faz tudo para proteger os seus filhos. Mandy Knox sabe que a sua filha desaparecida tem segredos que a tornam um possível alvo. A Policia insiste que a rapariga apenas fugiu de casa. Uma mãe sabe que não. É um Thriller Doméstico, com ambiente escolar envolvido, uma família disfuncional e sem regras e uma forte componente de mistérios e segredos que fazem com que estejamos até ao final a aguardar que tudo se resolva pelo melhor… mas será que é assim? Tudo muda quando Mandy abre a porta de casa… Este livro tem alguns erros que não deveriam existir, como troca de nomes de personagens ou erros gramaticais. Peca por isso.

Eng Review: A mother does everything to protect her children. Mandy Knox knows her missing daughter has secrets that make her a possible target. The police insist that the girl just ran away from home. A mother knows better. It’s a Domestic Thriller, with a school environment involved, a dysfunctional family without rules and a strong component of mysteries and secrets that make us wait until the end for everything to be resolved for the best… but is that so? Everything changes when Mandy opens the door… This book has some errors that shouldn’t exist, such as changing character names or grammatical errors. It fails in that point and it shouldn’t.

“A Happy Marriage” – Cathy is a wedding planner, who’s planning the wedding of the century. Her husband has his own plan for his wife.

Opinião: Bom, esta é uma short Story engraçada do ponto de vista que o Karma é lixado. Cathy é especializada em concretizar casamentos de sonho, e pensa que o seu também o é. No entanto, quando surge a oportunidade da vida dela, do seu negócio expandir com o planeamento de um casamento super badalado de um casal abastado, as coisas não correm como o esperado porque existem segredos que não se conseguem manter e pontas que não podem ficar soltas. E de casamento a funeral não é preciso muito… basta não se ser apanhado 😉

Eng Review: Well, this is a funny short story from the point of view that Karma is a bitch. Cathy specializes in making dream weddings , and she thinks her marriage is too. However, when the opportunity of a lifetime arises, for her business to expand by planning a super popular wedding for a wealthy couple, things don’t go as expected because there are secrets that can’t be kept and nots that can’t be left undone. . And from wedding to funeral you don’t need much… just don’t get caught 😉

Até os Comboios Andam aos Saltos – Célia Correia Loureiro

Sinopse: Uma mulher prestes a completar 30 anos está no aeroporto de Barajas à espera do voo para Lisboa. Tem um bloco de notas e um lápis, pelo que começa a registar tudo o que vê ao redor, assim como o muito que tem por resolver. Num monólogo intimista e cru, sem cair no politicamente correto, os pensamentos desta mulher ameaçam fundir-se com os do leitor comum.

«— Pai, alguma vez pensaste, um dia que morresses, se querias ser enterrado ou cremado?

— Cremado é bom.

Pestanejei, ele disse aquilo com imensa convicção.

— Ah é?

— Cremado, com uma cebolinha refogada, no Fausto é barato — é o restaurante onde íamos buscar cozido ao domingo, às vezes. (…) — Mas eles são uns chulos.»

Opinião: Demorei para ler este livro porque sentia que tinha que estar com o estado de espírito para tal. Não me enganei. Até porque assim que comecei a ler identifiquei-me tanto…

“Descobri há pouco que não gosto de pessoas. Nunca gostei mas só o entendi agora”

Eu ao ler esta constatação, várias vezes ao longo da narrativa, senti que um bocadinho de mim estava ali. Porque eu também, com o passar dos anos fui cada vez gostando menos de pessoas. Este livro é um romance real, intimista, cru, bruto, com uma beleza que só alguns irão entender. Considero que não seja fácil distinguir por vezes o sarcasmo da realidade, mas ambos, unidos aqui, fazem com que possamos entender que a vida nos troca as voltas e nos faz pensar e repensar as escolhas que fizémos, fazemos e iremos fazer. Em como tudo aquilo porque passamos e acompanhamos com os que nos são próximos nos mudam, nos dão mais força mas também nos vão delapidando pouco a pouco a resistência e resiliência. Porque sim, podemos ser fortes mas existe sempre um limite. Eu gostei muito, valeu a pena ler na altura certa, no momento certo. Obrigado Célia por este pedacinho de ti que nos deixas com este livro, e obrigado por nunca desistires.

Opinião: Esta é mais uma short Story cheia de suspense e de leitura muito rápida. Alice foge do seu marido, um mafioso que aguarda julgamento, sendo extremamente cuidadosa para não ser encontrada. Numa cidade pequena do Ohio encontra refúgio e alguém que parece apenas querer ajudar. No entanto, ao confiar que estava segura foi o pior erro da sua vida. O seu marido sabe perfeitamente onde ela se encontra e a vida como ela a conhece nunca mais será a mesma. Gostei, senti que gostaria de saber mais sobre as personagens, mas no geral, é uma boa leitura.

Eng Review: This is another short story full of suspense and a very quick read. Alice runs away from her husband, a mobster awaiting trial, being extremely careful not to be found. In a small town in Ohio she finds refuge and someone who only seems to want to help. However, trusting that she was safe was the worst mistake of her life. Her husband knows perfectly well where she is and life as she knows it will never be the same. I liked it, I felt like I would love to know more about the characters, but overall, it’s a good read.
